Die! Mommy! Die! and more Dreamwell news

Dreamwell's latest show is Die! Mommy! Die! by Charles Busch of Vampire Lesbians of Sodom Fame. Okay, he also wrote The Tale of the Allergist's Wife, but this show is more Vampire Lesbians than Allergist's Wife. (Not that there are any Lesbians, vampire or otherwise, in the show.) I house managed last night to a very appreciative crowd. We were laughing from scene one til the end. It is wonderfully directed by Jeff Shields and Chris Carpenter steals the show in the leading role. Everyone in the cast is very effective in their roles. It's a laugh a minute and if you want some fun, a chance to get away from it all and just laugh and laugh for an hour and a half, check it out. Two more performances: March 30 and 31 at 8 pm at 10 S. Gilbert in Iowa City. That's right, we're back at the Unitarian Society, where we started 10 years ago. It's nice to be back. It's a great little space that works very well for us. We also got some great new sound equipment which we only enhance future shows.

Dreamwell also settled on a season for 2007. After Mommy!, we're going to produce Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde in June. It's a show that's been on our radar for about five years. The University did it a number of years ago which is why we had to wait before mounting our production.

In September, we're going to present That Day in September by Artie Van Why. It's a first person account of the attack on the World Trade Center. It was originally written as a one man show, but we're going to divide the material between many actors and actresses in order to bring a universal feel to the story. We weren't all there when the towers fell, but we were all intensely affected. Mr. Van Why was there and his story is gripping.

And finally in November, I think, we're going to present Kimberly Akimbo, a show I have been championing for a while. It's a great story, full of laughter and it also packs an emotional wallop. I'm really excited about this show.

So there ya have it. Dreamwell is back for 2007 with a full season.

That Day In September sounds interesting. I think that is something I want to be involved with.
