The ridiculous-ness of it all...

I watched the State of the Union address last night and I was struck by how ridiculous some of it was. Not what the President said, although much of that prompted eye-rolls in my house, but rather the reactions of the crowd.

We can applaud a little bit for this... okay a lot for this... I'm sitting on my hands after that comment. It's just so ridiculous.

Our new Speaker of the House was the best and most obvious example. Nancy Pelosi's decision to applaud or not just epitomized the calculated nature of American politics. I don't think most people applauded or not based on what they beleived, but rather on what they think they're supposed to believe. In other words, our politicians lack integrity. I realize this isn't some earth shattering revelation. It's become all too common and that's why the NPR story I heard today that reported the number of Independent voters is on the rise was not a shocker. We're tired of Republicans and Democrats. Give us a third choice with integrity!

That's what I want most in a President in 2008. And if the Democrats and Republicans can't give me a candidate with integrity, I'll look for other options.

I suppose this would be my cue to say, if you're interested in changing the government, you should run for public office. =D

let me know when you decide to go for it. David's been trying to get me into politics for years. we'll be running mates. ;-) [or I'd just help with your campaign.]
